Configuring bandwidth limits
It's possible to restrict the actual bandwidth, the client will be using for its transfers. Furthermore the client makes a distinction between LAN and internet bandwidth, to have more flexibility.
Setting an internet bandwidth limit
To set an internet bandwidth limit:
- Enable the Expert Mode.
- Click on Preferences in the main window.
- Click on Network.
- Select a suitable profile from the Internet speed dropdown box or choose Custom to enter custom values.
Default: Unlimited

Configuring the connection behaviour
The client offers synchronization over local area network (LAN), internet and/or a custom server. It's possible to configure three types of networking modes in the client:
...
The networking mode controls the (re-)connection behaviorbehaviour:
LAN and Internet | Connects to
There is no restriction to IPs or IP ranges possible like in the LAN only networking mode. |
---|---|
Server only | Connects to the server only. This actually disables any peer-to-peer traffic and keeps the connection to the server only. |
LAN only | Connects to IPs and IP ranges that are
Connections from IPs other than those above will be rejected in this networking mode. On larger intranets it's often required to configure the LAN IP list (see below how to make modifications to that list), because computers are not a part of the same subnet or broadcast domain. This networking mode is also recommended when all network connections are established either locally or via VPN. This brings additional security, since no public internet connection are made at all. |
...
To configure the connection behaviorbehaviour:
- Enable the Expert Mode.
- Click on Preferences in the main window.
- Click on Network.
- Select a networking mode from the Connect to dropdown box.

Setting an internet bandwidth limit
To set an internet bandwidth limit:
Modifying the LAN IP list
To define, edit or remove IPs and IP ranges considered to be on the local area network:
- Enable the Expert Mode.
- Click on Preferences in the main window.
- Click on Network.
- Use the add , edit or delete buttons to make changes to the list.
Configuring the disconnected behaviour
If the client looses the connection to the server, it may not be possible to check for permissions other members have on certain folders. Since the client may have one or more connections to other clients, it's possible to decide if the synchronization should continue or stop.
To configure the behavior when the client is disconnected from the server:
- Enable the Expert Mode.
- Click on Preferences in the main window.
- Click on Network.
- Select a suitable profile from the Internet speed dropdown box or choose Custom to enter custom values.

Configuring network interfaces and ports
It's possible make the client listen for connections on a specific network interface and ports, tough we recommend to use the defaults.
To listen on a specific network interface:
- Enable the Expert Mode.
- Click on Preferences in the main window.
- Click on Network.
- Select a suitable profile from the LAN speed dropdown box or choose Custom to enter custom values.

- the network interface the client should listen on from the Network interface dropdown box.
To change the network port for incoming connections:
- Enable the Expert Mode.
- Click on Preferences in the main window.
- Click on Network.
- Uncheck the Detect a suitable port automatically checkbox.
- Specify the desired port in the Data port field.
Using relayed transfers
This feature makes it possible to use the client without configuring your router and firewall, but requires a connection to a server. Both devices need to have relayed connection activated to make it work. Most routers and firewalls allow outgoing connections and responses from the device which was contacted. A relayed connection is established from both sides to the server. The server connects both devices making it possible to transfer data even if no incoming connections are allowed on the default or configured data port.
Relayed connections are enabled by default.
To disable relayed connections:
- Enable the Expert Mode.
- Click on Preferences in the main window.
- Click on Network.
- Uncheck the Enabled relayed transfers checkbox.
Using UDT transfers
This feature is described in an extra article about using UDT connections.
