Enabling on-demand connections

By default the client tries to establish connections to devices to known devices and keeps these even if no immediate synchronization needs to be performed. This logic ensures to instantly start the synchronization when folder contents locally or remotely change. The connect on demand feature changes this behaviour by connecting only if a folder needs to be actually synchronized. Otherwise all connections will be dropped. This is useful if connections should not permanently kept open. As a downside it will delay the sync from remote changed files.

Enabling on-demand connections

This feature can be enabled under Preferences / Pro settings. After enabling all connections usually get dropped.

To enable on-demand connections:

  1. Enable the Expert Mode.
  2. Click on Preferences in the main window.
  3. Click on Plugins.
  4. Select On-demand connection from the list of plugins and click on Enable.

Rules applying to on-demand connections

When activated on-demand connections will be established

  • on client startup,
  • on local changes (when new, changed or deleted files are being detected in a local folder) and
  • periodically to check if there have been changes on remote clients (by default every 60 minutes).

Once the connection is established the client completes the synchronization if necessary and drops all connections afterwards.

To change the interval for periodical on-demand connections:

  1. Enable the Expert Mode.
  2. Click on Preferences in the main window.
  3. Click on Plugins.
  4. Select On-demand connection from the list of plugins and click on Settings.
  5. Define a different interval for the periodical check of remote changes.
